General

Q: How can I register my camper?

A: After January 1st you can register your camper online, or by fax or mail.

Q: Can I register over the phone?

A: No. There are three ways to register: Online, Fax or Mail. We register as much as possible on a "next in line basis". Online is the easiest. Just click on the "Camp" tab and "register". It will let you know if a camp has been filled up or not.

Q: I didn't get a brochure. Some people in my church have already gotten theirs. When should I expect mine?

A: We send brochures by bulk mail. This year they were mailed in mid-December. If you would like to request a brochure please call 515-547-2751 or email us with your name and address. You can also download one on the download page above.

Cancellations and Transfers

Q: My camper's friend (who I listed as a roommate) is going to cancel. Can he/she substitute another friend in their place?

A: We will try to place you with another friend, providing there is space available in the camp you are signed up for..

Q: Something came up and my camper can't attend this summer, but his friend wants to come. Can I transfer our spot and deposit to him?

A: The deposit is transferable and if there is no waiting list for your camp, your friend can surely get in.

Q: We have to cancel our camper's registration, but I already paid in full. Do we get our money back?

A: If you do have to cancel, all but the $75 deposit can be refunded. You must cancel before the camp session begins.

Q: My neighbor's camper is coming Week 7 and my camper is coming Week 6. Is there anyway to move my camper to a Week 7 program so they are attending the same week?

A: If you need to transfer a camper after they have been confirmed, just let us know and we will be glad to move them to another camp as space allows.

Summer Arrival and Departure Info

Q: What time is summer camp check-in?

A: Check-in is from 3:30-5:00 p.m. on the first day of camp on the front porch of the Welcome Center.  (Usually Sunday afternoon.)

Q: When should we pick our camper up?

A: If your child’s camp ends on Friday, you are invited to join us for closing chapel and an all-camp BBQ dinner before you take them home.  Chapel is at 4:30 and dinner follows at 5:00 p.m.  If camp ends on Saturday, chapel is at 10:00 and a free brunch is served at 10:30

Q: We need to pick up our camper early, is that okay?

A: We strongly recommend that you do not pick up your camper early. The closing day activities can be the highlight of a camper's week and an early checkout compromises their camp experience. If leaving early is absolutely unavoidable, when you bring your camper at check in the first day, make contact with one of our registrars with a request for an early checkout. They will help you make the arrangements.

Age and Grade

Q: My child has finished the 3rd grade but is very mature for his/her age and is old enough to have finished 4th grade. Can he/she move up to the next program?

A: All of our camps are specifically designed and based on a grade level experience. However, we realize that friends are sometimes not in the same grade, or schedule doesn't allow you to go when age group is available. Therefore, we leave the decision up to the parents...if they feel their child will be just fine in a group of younger students, then it is fine with us.

Roommates

Q: How can I make sure that my camper gets the roommates I requested?

A: To help ensure roommate placement make sure that the campers request each other and have listed the same program type and dates.

Q: We have 4 girls who really, really want to be together. Can that happen?

A: We will do our best to get you all in the same cabin.

Financial Aid

Q: Do you have price breaks for families?

A: Yes, 2nd child: $10 discount, 3rd child: $20 discount, etc. with a maximum of a $50 discount.

Q: Do you have camp scholarships available?

A: Please contact our camp registrar, DeDe for details on camp scholarships.  We also encourage you to check with your church.

A: Here are the things you will need for the check in line on the first day of camp:

  1. Money for balance due. (Cash, check made out to Hidden Acres, and Visa/MasterCard are accepted)

  2. Canteen money for crafts, treats, and camp store (Sixers, Jr. & Sr. High campers hold on to their own money)

  3. Pharmacy labeled medications in a zip lock bag.

Q: How are the campers taught the lessons?

A: The lessons will either be led by a counselor in a small group setting or by a speaker in a large group setting (chapel). Each day has something relating to the theme for the summer. Much teaching is done through role modeling and teachable moments.

Q: What is blobbing?

A: "The Blob" is a large parachute of air where one camper jumps on and ventures out to the edge of the blob and another camper jumps and propels them into the water. The kids love it!

Health Questions

Q: My child has asthma; do you have facilities that can handle that?

A: Yes, every camp week we have registered nurses/medical staff on duty to assist your camper with any medical needs he/she might have.

Q: My camper still wets the bed, how is that handled at camp?

A: This is a common concern. Our counselors have been trained to handle the situation with sensitivity and confidentiality. Visit with your child's counselor when dropping them off at the cabin about your concerns in this area.

Specialty Camps

Q: Should my son bring his bike to Bike camp?

A: Yes.  Hidden Acres is not able to provide bikes for this camp.

Q: What kind of clothes should my camper bring for horse camp?

A: Make sure your camper packs long pants for riding and a pair of closed-toed shoes. Tennis shoes are okay, but a shoe with a heel offers more control of the horse and keeps your foot from slipping through the stirrup.

Q: My camper has never ridden a horse; can he/she still come to horse camp?

A: Yes! There are campers with all levels of experience signed up for horse camp. After the child arrives at camp, our wranglers group them based on experience and teach them accordingly.
